Plurk: Twitter clone, or just another made up word?
OK, so I’m currently checking out the new networking tool de jour Plurk. What is Plurk?
It sounds like “Plunk” and “Work” had a word baby.
But really, it’s works like a more sophisticated Twitter, and a better built Pownce, in the sense that you can still upload video’s, photos and standard text, but you can also reply to other people’s Plurks in a thread, which is pretty darn cool. The public (if you want them to) can read people’s thoughts on your comment, and even add some more of your two-sense if need be. The page itself is pretty easy to customize, and they have this whole concept of “karma points”, which I don’t understand, but the more you post and get involved with Plurk, the more points you get. It’s like a game, and keeps people posting and involved.
Really, a smart ploy when you’re competing with a heavyweight like Twitter. Since it’s a relatively new site that’s just catching on in the tech world, one has to wonder if it’ll catch on with the “average Joe” out there, which is the real trick when dealing with social networking.
Lets just hope they took a page from Facebook’s playbook on that one.
